Millsboro, DE (August 28, 2014) - The 2014 Patriot Golf Weekend is returning to The Peninsula on the Indian River Bay over Labor Day weekend. Last year, the effort successfully raised $22,261, which was considerable enough to rank The Peninsula as a Top 50 Facility by The Folds of Honor Foundation.
The Folds of Honor Foundation provides scholarships to families of soldiers and military personnel who have become disabled or lost their lives in the line of duty. For the past seven years during Labor Day weekend, golfers have been asked to donate $1 when they play a round of golf at participating courses around the country. The Peninsula's approach welcomes golfers to come out and play over Labor Day Weekend, while the Club donates $1 from each golf fee to the Folds of Honor Foundation.
The Peninsula has been a longtime host of this event, and 2014 marks the first year it has done so under new ownership. Earlier this year, Wells Fargo took ownership of The Peninsula on the Indian River Bay, putting its full weight behind the community and working to complete the vision for this world-class destination. As the new owner, Wells Fargo becomes the first Title Sponsor for the Patriot Golf Weekend at The Peninsula.
"We are so proud to be part of continuing the community's tradition to raise funds for this extraordinary cause," said Daniel Bartok, Executive Vice President of Wells Fargo.
Prior to this year's event, Patriot Golf Day had raised more than $17.1 million nationwide, with more than 4,500 facilities participating annually. The Peninsula would like to thank all who donated money, auction items and especially time.
"It's an honor to have our course be included in something that does so much good for those who have already done so much for us," said Donald B. DeMasters, General Manager of The Peninsula on the Indian River Bay.
The Peninsula is ideally situated for both seclusion and convenience. Just two hours from Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., and 15 minutes from Rehoboth Beach, it's the perfect place to call home year round or on the weekends.
