Leland, NC (August 22, 2014) - Leland’s resort-style living community, paid tribute to its veteran residents with a Memorial Day celebration on Monday, May 26.

Compass Pointe developers, Mr. Bobby Harrelson and Mr. Bert Exum wanted to show their appreciation for the men and women who served to protect our freedom with a tribute at the Grand Lanai Pavilion. The event paid tribute to the veterans in the community with a surprise from the sky; two veterans from The All Veteran Group parachuted out of an airplane, one holding the American flag that was raised during the ceremony. The All Veteran Group, founded by US Army veteran Mike Elliot in 2011, values patriotism and creativity, which made it the perfect addition to Compass Pointe’s Memorial Day ceremony.

Over 500 property owners and guests gathered for the celebration, which included a barbeque and special performance by the Compass Pointer Sisters, who sang patriotic songs such as “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.” This event was a tremendous success by uniting the property owners and showing appreciation for the United States and its Armed Forces.

Terri Connors-Burns posted on the Compass Pointe Facebook page, “Awesome day, thanks to all who served and participated today. Mr. Bobby and Bert hosted a fabulous event today.”
