Statham, GA (August 23, 2013) – Where to Retire Magazine has named The Georgia Club one of the best master-planned communities in the U.S. in its latest Top 50 Best Master-Planned Communites rankings.

The magazine’s nine-month selection process reviews several hundred candidates across the country each year. The 2013 initial selection featured communities from 17 states, and The Georgia Club was one of only five from Georgia.

“The Georgia Club’s location and amenities offer its members a one-of-a-kind active lifestyle, and it’s great to be recognized for that,”says Steve Crowell, senior director of Alvarez & Marsal Capital Real Estate, owners of The Georgia Club.

The Where to Retire list is unique in its focus on communities rather than cities, though the Club’s proximity to Athens and Atlanta was highlighted. Quoted in the feature, Georgia Club resident Bob Cullerton said, “It has a small-town environment, but you’re close to the big city. Atlanta is only an hour away…[and]it takes us only 20 minutes to get into the heart of Athens.”

The club was recognized for offering its members a well-rounded, active lifestyle and positively impacting the economic health of the area. This is the third time the Georgia Club has been chosen for the list.

“We are honored and thrilled to be recognized again among the top communities in the country to retire,” says The Georgia Club General Manager Kevin Cartledge. “Being included on the list confirms our commitment to providing members with the most fulfilling community experience possible.”

Where to Retire Publisher Karen Northridge says that the selected communities are “leaders in providing a high quality of life to those who are embarking on new adventures in retirement.”

The edition of the magazine featuring this year’s list hit shelves June 18. The other four Georgia communities that made the list are Riverwood Plantation in Evans, Sun City Peachtree by Del Webb in Griffin, Soleil Laurel Canyon in Canton and Cresswind at Lake Lanier.
