Dataw Island's Sams Tabby Ruins Complex Added to the National Register of Historic Places
(Dataw Island, S.C.) -Dataw Island’s Sams Tabby Ruins Complex has been added to the National Register of Historic Places, according to the Dataw Historic Foundation (DHF). The director of the National Park Service made the announcement on March 11. The tabby ruins on Dataw Island date back to the Plantation Age of the 1700s and once represented one of the largest collections of such structures in the South.

The Reserve Charitable Foundation Raises $40,000 for Local Charities
(Sunset, S.C.) – At a special dinner ceremony on December 1, The Reserve at Lake Keowee Charitable Foundation’s Board of Directors and Outreach Committee, along with Executive Director Kathryn Coleman-Gravely, distributed four $5,000 checks to Prevent Child Abuse of Pickens County, Pickens County Meals on Wheels, MARYS House, and Helping Hands. These four non-profit organizations, all based in and serving the families of Pickens County, were chosen by The Reserve’s membership earlier in 2010 to receive the Foundation’s annual gift which, this year, totals $40,000, half of which was already distributed to the organizations in April. Though the organizations knew that they were beneficiaries of the funds, the amount of the gift was a surprise.

Christmas Comes to Keowee with Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony
(Sunset, S.C.) – A gorgeous 40-foot evergreen in the Village Center at The Reserve at Lake Keowee was trimmed Friday night with festive lights, and encircled and lit by the community’s residents to celebrate the coming of the Christmas season. More than 100 families gathered around the Village Tree for this hallmark and anticipated annual event, which included caroling, a candle lighting ceremony, and a worship service in Founders Hall. Dataw Island Golf Event Raises More Than $19,000 For The Wounded Warrior Project
(St. Helena Island, S.C.) – On November 9, residents of Dataw Island teamed with the local Chapters of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Lion’s Club of Beaufort, S.C. to raise more than $19,000 during the third annual golf tournament to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. The non-profit organization supports wounded American combat veterans and assists them on their road to recovery.
