International major championship winners strengthen field at The Greenbrier Classic

White Sulphur Springs, WV (June 12, 2014) - Officials of The Greenbrier Classic announced today the commitment of six-time major championship winner Sir Nick Faldo to compete in one of the top fields on the PGA TOUR. International major champions Angel Cabrera, Darren Clarke, Retief Goosen, Trevor Immelman and Vijay Singh join Faldo, collectively representing 15 major championship victories.

The Greenbrier Classic will take place from June 30 - July 6, 2014 at The Greenbrier, the classic American resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV.

Faldo has won nine times on the PGA TOUR, including three Masters Tournament victories and three Open Championship trophies. In 1998, after 39 tournament victories around the world and 11 consecutive Ryder Cups, Faldo was elected into the World Golf Hall of Fame and then in 2009 was knighted by Queen Elizabeth. Today, in addition to competing on the course, the Englishman is lead analyst for CBS Sports and the Golf Channel and maintains a thriving business including golf-course design, wine, apparel, and the Faldo Golf Centers. He is also the founder of the globally honored Faldo Series, which creates opportunities through golf and develops tomorrow's champions around the world. An international initiative to grow the game, the Faldo Series was founded by the major champion 18 years ago. Today, the Faldo Series reaches more than 7,000 players each year with more than 40 events in 32 countries.

In October 2013, The Greenbrier hosted the first Faldo Series Grand Final in the United States on The Old White TPC Course. The Faldo Golf Center was also opened in 2013 at The Greenbrier, featuring instruction based on Faldo's award-winning "A Swing for Life" teaching theories. The only one of its kind in the U.S., the Faldo Golf Center will offer Faldo equipment (irons, wedges and putters) and Faldo by Edel fitting systems in addition to the established brands of Callaway, Titleist, Taylor Made and NIKE.

Cabrera is a two-time major championship winner with victories at the 2007 U.S. Open Championship and 2009 Masters Tournament and career PGA TOUR earnings of $11,952,297. The native of Argentina will be making his first start at this year's The Greenbrier Classic.

Clarke has recorded three PGA TOUR victories, including the 2011 Open Championship, to go with $8,554,114 in career TOUR earnings. A native of Northern Ireland, Clarke will be competing in his first Classic at the end of the month.

Goosen will be returning for his second appearance at The Greenbrier. He missed the cut in 2011 and has a tournament scoring average of 73.50. The South African has $28,430,140 in career PGA TOUR earnings and seven victories to his credit, including the 2001 and 2004 U.S. Open Championships.

Winner of the 2008 Masters Tournament, Immelman, will be making his fifth start on The Old White TPC Course. His best finish came in 2011 when he finished in a tie for 14th place. His tournament scoring average is 69.63 with earnings of $105,000.  The South African has posted two PGA TOUR victories and has career TOUR earnings of $12,440,898.

Singhboasts 34 PGA TOUR victories, three of which have been major championships: the 1998 and 2004 PGA Championships and the 2000 Masters Tournament. The native of Fiji and World Golf Hall of Fame member has career TOUR earnings topping $68.4 million and will be making his second start at The Greenbrier Classic. He finished T33 in 2012 and has a tournament scoring average of 68.50 and earnings of $32,940.

"We're thrilled to welcome such accomplished professionals to The Classic," said Jim Justice, owner of The Greenbrier. "The addition of these international champions to our field solidifies The Greenbrier Classic as one of the top stops on the PGA TOUR."
