White Sulphur Springs, WV (March 24, 2014) - It was one hundred years ago that one of America's most legendary golf courses was inaugurated, and at exactly 8:24AM on Saturday, March 29, 2014, a guest of The Greenbrier will step to the tee of the "Old White" course and launch a golf shot marking the first century of continuous play.

Known as "America's Resort," The Greenbrier has long been considered one of the United States' most magnificent vacation facilities. The centenary of "Old White" will be formally marked on Saturday April 19, when The Greenbrier's owner and Chairman, Jim Justice III, using a 1914 driver, will strike a ceremonial ball from the tee.
In 2011, with The Greenbrier's admission to the PGA TOUR's TPC Network, "Old White" joined the exclusive group of the most prestigious golf courses in the nation and is now formally known as "The Old White TPC."  The Old White TPC is the oldest course on the PGA TOUR to continually host an annual tournament, The Greenbrier Classic.
To celebrate the centenary of "Old White," The Greenbrier is offering a "CENTURY OF GOLF" play and stay package including championship golf on the "Old White" course and luxurious accommodations at The Greenbrier Resort.

•    Championship golf on The Old White TPC
•    Luxurious accommodations at The Greenbrier Resort
•    No cart fees for replay rounds
•    Access to practice facilities and locker rooms
•    Commemorative coin to celebrate 100 years

Plus, extra concessions for groups of 8 or more, including:

•    Group organizer stays and plays for free
•    10% discount on spa treatments

•    Assistance with setting up tournaments and scoring

The list of those who have golfed at "Old White" reads like a who's who of golf and celebrity: Ben Hogan, The Duke of Windsor, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Joe DiMaggio, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Tiger Woods and a bevy of U.S. Presidents including Woodrow Wilson, Dwight Eisenhower, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.
Perhaps more than any other individual, however, it was legendary golfer Sam Snead who put The Greenbrier on the map as one of the world's foremost golf destinations. During his years at The Greenbrier, Snead shot "60" six times on the Old White course and climaxed his career with a historic final hole-in-one on Hole 18 in 1995.
* Minimum two-night stay.  The Century of Golf Package starting rate is based on double occupancy in a Standard or Intermediate room, and is per golfer, per night.  Resort fees and taxes are not included, and the package is subject to availability.  Social packages may not be used with group bookings, and must be booked prior to arrival.  For guests' convenience, we request that reservations for dinner and all activities be made prior to arrival.
Located in White Sulphur Springs in the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia, The Greenbrier has been welcoming guests since 1778. Known as "America's Resort," it encompasses more than 10,000 acres of undulating landscape that includes: five golf courses (including the exclusive Greenbrier Sporting Club's private course); a championship indoor and outdoor tennis facility (including five outdoor clay courts and five indoor courts); a mélange of sporting activities; shops; private homes at The Greenbrier Sporting Club; and, at its heart, a vast and imposing grand hotel. Purchased in 2009 by West Virginia entrepreneur James C. Justice II, The Greenbrier has undergone a $250+ million restoration and is now home to The Greenbrier Classic, a PGA TOUR, FedExCup event, and will soon launch The Greenbrier Medical Institute, a state-of-the-art medical complex on the resort's grounds.
Licensed by the PGA TOUR, the TPC Network is comprised of 32 premier private, resort and daily fee golf properties designed by some of golf's most elite architects. Eighteen of the clubs are operated by affiliates of PGA TOUR Golf Course Properties, Inc. Each TPC has hosted or has been designed to host TOUR-sponsored golf tournaments. Since TPC Sawgrass first opened its world renowned PLAYERS Stadium Course in the fall of 1980, TPCs have provided the PGA TOUR with rent-free venues for tournaments, helping to boost championship golf purses and increasing charitable donations to grass roots non-profit organizations. At the same time, TPCs have provided recreational golfers with the unique opportunity to test their skills on the same layouts where the world's best golfers compete.
TPCs are known for their outstanding conditioning and amenities, as well as a commitment to environmental excellence. The TPC Network is also distinguished by its unwavering commitment to further the PGA TOUR's "Together, anything's possible" giving back mission through support of charitable and community-based programs.
