(January 6, 2014) - Carleton Varney, the legendary interior designer and Curator of The Greenbrier, will kick off the resort's 2014 Discovery Series with a dedicated design weekend, January 24-26.
Varney, the former protégé of Dorothy Draper and current President of Dorothy Draper & Co, carries on the firm's storied 65-year relationship with The Greenbrier and will introduce guests to the resort's unique design scheme through an entertaining series of fireside chats, walking tours and cocktails parties.
Weekend highlights will include:
"Happy Birthday, Carleton Varney!" Dinner Party
Carleton will be joined by his closest family and friends, as well as guests of The Greenbrier, in celebrating his birthday with live music, dinner and dancing. Broadway star Rita McKenzie will be performing in Carleton's honor. (Guests of The Greenbrier can book their tables by making reservations in the Main Dining Room.)
"Cocktails with Carleton" in the State Suite
The State Suite boasts one of the most impressive entrance foyers on property, showcasing The Greenbrier's traditional black and white marble tile, and Carleton Varney will discuss the design techniques and answer questions as guests sip cocktails (the mint julep was invented at The Greenbrier).

The Greenbrier Discovery Series is a collection of eight weekend events with themes ranging from interior design to the culinary arts, blues music to craft beer brewing, and from antiques to wellness.
