Historic Beaufort Foundation recently hosted its annual Spring Architects’ Tour, showcasing houses in and around Beaufort, SC. The 2023 tour highlights contemporary homes that appeal to all generations wanting to experience Beaufort’s unique Lowcountry setting and style.

The home featured at Islands of Beaufort was designed by Frederick + Frederick Architects and built by Powell Brothers Construction. It is a beautifully proportioned, modern interpretation of the “dogtrot” style and overlooks the lush landscapes and tidal marshes of Battery Creek.

The central area of the home (or dogtrot space) is the living, dining, kitchen, and outdoor living spaces that have large windows and double doors to let the breeze funnel through. A big fireplace enters in the symmetrical vaulted space and has flanking glass doors that join the indoor and outdoor living spaces.

“Interpreting Beaufort’s architectural heritage in a 21st-century style, the Spring Architects’ Tour gave the rare opportunity to peek inside the newest and best of Beaufort’s residential architecture,” said Cynthia Jenkins, Historic Beaufort Foundation’s Executive Director.

Islands of Beaufort is a private, gated community bordering the shoreline of Battery Creek and tucked into the woods with winding roads and trails to walk. Retirees, working professionals, and families with children have built their custom dream homes in this park-like setting. Amenities include a clubhouse, swimming pool, tennis/paddleball courts, a fitness room, and a children’s playground. Two community docks – one with a floating ramp and kayak launch – overlook the tidal marsh of Battery Creek. Both docks provide access to crabbing, beautiful sunsets and moon rises reflected in the marsh waters. “Come visit this hidden gem … then come back to live!”
