Hot Springs Village, AR – Registration is now underway for Hot Springs Village’s 2nd annual Sprint Triathlon, TRI-the-Village, scheduled for Saturday, May 18. This USAT sanctioned event includes a 500-yard swim in Lake Balboa, a 13.5-mile cycle course over rolling terrain and ends with a 3.5-mile run.

“This event is a great opportunity to showcase the Village to folks who haven’t had a reason to visit before now,” said Katherine Winslow, Volunteer Coordinator for the event. The event is open to resident and non-residents alike.

Registration and management of the event is handled by DLT Event Management, Inc., of Arkadelphia with support from and in benefit of Teen Challenge of Arkansas, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to help men 18 and older with life-controlling problems. DLT Event Management, Inc., manages both on-road and off-road events across the state.

Athletics may register online at www.trithevillage.com, which will link directly to the DLT website. Also available online are practice maps, information on accommodations and a video of last year’s event.

Participants may compete individually or be part of a relay team. All athletics must have a USAT annual membership or purchase a one-day membership when registering. Awards for a variety of categories will be given including Overall Male/Female, Masters Male/Female, Grand Masters, Relay Teams, Physically Challenged and more.

Local athletics are already training. “With a sprint triathlon on my doorstep, I couldn’t resist,” said Peter Trabant, last year’s cycling coordinator. Trabant had always admired triathletes but never trained until now.

Last year’s event had approximately 134 entries including several residents and others from five neighboring states. The fastest participant was 21-year-old Alex Goff, a student of University of Arkansas, with at time of 1:02:43.8.

TRI-the-Village is a community event with numerous volunteers including a team of individuals, local business sponsors and local police department, fire department and medical coordinators. Hot Springs Village is in West Central Arkansas in the Ouachita Mountains just 15 minutes from Hot Springs and an hour from Little Rock, Ark. It is a gated community and day passes are required for both participants and spectators.
