Residents of the Skidaway Island community collected a huge assortment of gifts from bikes and scooters to baby dolls and easy bake ovens for children served by CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and SAFE Shelter. “This year, we included the Moms at SAFE Shelter too,” said Rosemary Longueira, Director of Public Relations at The Landings Company. “After all, everyone deserves a little surprise under the tree on Christmas morning!”
Angel cards bearing the first name of a child or Mom, their Christmas wish and other pertinent information, were placed on a Christmas tree in The Landings Company office starting the first week in November. Residents were invited to participate in the program and they immediately began streaming in to select their special angel. By Thanksgiving, all of the cards were selected.
In the end, 112 angels were selected and gifts had to be piled high under two trees! Along with toys, residents purchased clothes and boxes and bags filled with other goodies. They also brought in gift paper and bows to wrap the presents. Some folks were so moved by the volume of gifts that they saw when visiting the office that they returned later with various gifts asking that they be passed along to either of the two organizations. Other residents brought their gifts to the office only to leave with another Angel’s name!
“Our residents are a very caring group who wanted to once again make a difference in the lives of children, and they certainly did that this year!” said Longueira.
