Statham, Georgia
The Georgia Club Foundation hosts their second annual 5K and 1 mile fun-run.

Statham, Ga. – Laced up and ready to run? Residents and visitors alike are invited to come out in support of a worthy cause. The Georgia Club Foundation will host its Second Annual Front Porch Footrace on Friday May 23, 2008 to benefit local charitable organizations, including the special needs programs for Barrow County Schools and the Athens Nurses’ Clinic. All ages and skill levels are encouraged to take part in either the 5K race or the 1 mile fun-run, with wagons and strollers welcome as well.

Participants can sprint, stroll or roll through the streets of the residential golf community while their friends and family look on from spacious front porches or freshly-cut lawns. To keep spirits up and feet light, neighborhood parks along the route will be transformed into cheering sections and water stations.

“The Georgia Club Foundation is excited to once again provide an engaging, family-friendly event that also benefits such a worthy cause,” said Jim Vanden Berg, CEO of The Georgia Club and executive director of The Georgia Club Foundation. “We were pleased with how the Footrace brought residents and participants from the community together last year, and we’re looking forward to having many families on our porches, our lawns and, of course, our streets again this year.”

Last year’s Front Porch Footrace had more than 200 participants.

Prizes will be awarded to the top overall male and female, top masters male and female and the top three male and female in each age group beginning with 10 years and under and ranging to 75 years and older. Each runner to participate will receive a commemorative t-shirt and will be invited to stay after the race for a refreshment reception.

Interested participants can visit www.thegeorgiaclub.com for more information and an entry form. Open registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. the day of the race. 6:30 p.m. will mark the start of the 1 mile fun-run and the 5K will begin at 7:00 p.m.
