Mission Children's Hospital named as recipent of funds from 2008 Southern Living idea house in Whisper Mountain, NC

Birmingham, Ala., and Asheville, N.C. – Southern Living and Whisper Mountain developers have selected Mission Children’s Hospital in Asheville to be the recipient of a portion of the proceeds from its eco-friendly 2008 Idea House.
Mission Children’s Hospital has 113 inpatient beds designated specifically for the care of infants, children, and adolescents. The care is directed by physicians representing more than 20 pediatric subspecialties.
“We are very excited to have been chosen by Whisper Mountain developers and Southern Living to be a part of this unique Idea House, We believe our facility provides a much needed service to the community and the proceeds from the Idea House tours are going to allow us to continue our mission.”
The 2008 Southern Living Idea House in Whisper Mountain will be a farmhouse-style home with complementary outbuildings – including a detached garage, cistern “pump house” and more. The home’s many eco-friendly features will include: solar thermal and solar photovoltaic panels, rain water catchment and grey water system, radiant heated floor, tankless water heater, use of recycled metal, native species landscaping, Energy Star appliances and much more.
Whisper Mountain has partnered with EcoBuilders, Inc., an Asheville green builder to create this unique home, which will showcase the very latest in sustainability options for anyone looking to upgrade or build in harmony with their surrounding environment.
The house will be open for public tours June 21- October 12, 2008. Hours of operation will be Wednesday – Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sundays 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Tickets are $5, and may be purchased on site. The house will be closed for public tours Monday and Tuesday. Once the house closes for public tours, it will be for sale and marketed through EcoHouse Realty, www.ecohouserealty.com.
Design Team The house has been designed by Bill Allison of Allison Ramsey Architects of Asheville. The interior designer for the project is Traci Kearns of Alchemy Design Studio, also of Asheville.
