Dataw Will Host 36th Carolinas Mid-Amateur This Weekend
Beaufort S.C. (April 14, 2016) - The Carolinas Golf Association's 36th Carolinas Mid-Amateur Championship will take place April 15-17 on Dataw Island Club's Cotton Dike course in Dataw Island, S.C. This is the fifth CGA championship conducted on the Cotton Dike layout. Originally designed by Tom Fazio in 1985, the course was completely renovated in 2011. The course is lushly appointed with Live Oak trees, impeccable landscaping and stunning marsh views that give it a uniquely LowCountry feel.
In last year's championship at North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh, N.C., Sherrill Britt of West End, N.C. edged Tee Opperman of Pawley's Island, S.C. and Chris Mitchell of Prosperity, S.C. by one shot to capture his first CGA championship.
Britt will be looking to defend his 2015 title. Other former champions in this year's field include: Scott Harvey (2012 & 2013) of Greensboro, N.C.; Steve Liebler (2010) of Irmo, S.C.; Jarrett Grimes (2009) of Columbia, S.C.; and Rick Cloninger (2003) of Fort Mill, S.C.
The field for the 2016 championship is expected to consist of 115 players. Exempt players were automatically accepted into the championship while others were required to qualify for the tournament through one of five 18-hole qualifiers.
The Carolinas Mid-Amateur Championship format is 54 holes of stroke play. After 36 holes, the field is cut to the low 60 scores and ties.
