Savannah, GA (Oct. 16, 2012) - Ten years ago, Santa contacted one of his little helpers at The Landings Company and asked if The Landings community would be willing to help make it a Merry Christmas for Savannah’s underprivileged children. He explained that these children live with fear and uncertainty. They ask, “Will I have enough food to eat? Will I have new clothes to wear? Will anyone remember me at Christmas?”

Ten years ago the community answered “Yes!” and has been making dreams come true for hundreds of Savannah’s children since then. The community, located just 10 miles from beautiful historic downtown Savannah, will do it again this year. Landings Company Agents, on behalf of The Landings Community, will be coordinating the 10th annual “Adopt An Angel” program. This year, they will be supporting the children serviced by Union Mission, The Wesley Community Center and the Greenbriar Children’s Center. All three organizations have expressed an overwhelming need.

Starting on November 16th, each child’s specific wish will be placed on a special Angel Tree in The Landings Company Discovery Center. Residents will be able stop by seven days a week to select one or more angels in order to make a child’s Christmas wish come true. Each and every year in the past, all of the angels (typically between 150 and 200) were selected (often times requiring additional calls to the agencies for more wishes).

By the return date, the Discovery Center has traditionally been packed with bicycles, toys, games, books, electronics, scooters, dollhouses, clothing and more, requiring a caravan of trucks and vans to deliver the “goodies” to the designated charities! We anticipate that 2012 will be no different.

A little about the organizations selected for 2012:
  • UNION MISSION: has been providing vital humanitarian and social services to Savannah’s homeless and special needs communities since 1936 and will serve more than 200 area homeless children this holiday season providing toys, clothing, games and food.

  • THE WESLEY COMMUNITY CENTER: is designed for women of all backgrounds to come together and improve their lives and the lives of their families. Wesley's day shelter provides a safe haven, lunch, and optional motivational programs.

  • GREENBRIAR CHILDREN'S CENTER: The mission of Greenbriar Children's Center is to promote the healthy development of children and the strengthening of families. It provides services that include an emergency shelter, runaway/homeless, residential care, independent living, family preservation, early childhood education & care, and Project Safe Place.
