Savannah, GA (August 18, 2011) - Whoever said fundraising couldn’t be fun, obviously hasn’t met the members of The Landings Rhodes 19 Sailing Club. These dedicated sailors spend weekends year-round with the wind in their hair and the sun to their backs as they race a fleet of Rhodes 19 sailboats along the pristine Wilmington River.

And each September the club guides their vessels to the Savannah Yacht Club for the annual St. Joseph’s/Candler Leukemia Cup Regatta. Funds raised by the event benefit local research, patient aid, education and awareness programs as well as the promotion of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s mission.

For the past six years the Rhodes 19 Club has faithfully supported the St. Joseph’s/Candler Leukemia Cup Regatta hosted by the Savannah Yacht Club. With their support, the fundraising contributions of the Savannah Yacht Club have ranked the second highest in the nation, just after San Francisco.

The Rhodes 19 Sailing Club also remains a popular choice among Landings residents. Consisting of 35 members and eight keel model sailboats, the Rhodes 19 Club offers a unique combination of friendly competition and nautical education.

With the payment of a nominal fee, sailing club members gain access to the fleet as well as a host of friendly faces which range in age from mid teens to mid 80s. Races alternate between Saturday and Sunday and usually last from 12:30pm to 4:00pm. What better way to spend a weekend? No matter their experience level, any resident can answer the call of the sea with the help of The Landings’ Rhodes 19 Sailing Club.
