Grantham, New Hampshire (August 3, 2011) − The U.S. Green Building Council recently awarded Eastman’s South Cove Activity Center with GOLD LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. During the South Cove project approval process, the Community, through the Council and the Board of Directors, set an objective for the project to be LEED silver certified. The award of GOLD is a major accomplishment by the Community and the design and construction teams, and further demonstrates Eastman’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

Often referred to as Eastman’s backyard, the South Cove Activity Center is the hub of activity year round. This community area provides function rooms, a three-lane lap pool and fitness center, a game room for family fun, a variety of watercraft rentals, Peppermint Patty’s snack shack for ice cream and beach food, and office space for the Recreation Department. Completed in August 2009, the 16,000-square-foot, ADA-accessible building is climate controlled with a geothermal heating/cooling system and was selected from more than 2,500 nominated projects as a Green Building of America Award-winning project.

LEED is an internationally recognized, green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community is designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO 2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
