OCALA, Fla. (October 24, 2019) – Shield of Faith (SOF) Missions and On Top of the World Communities LLC are proud to host the Operation: Helping Heroes Gala this Veteran’s Day weekend, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. at the Circle Square Cultural Center.
In cooperation with Medal of Honor sponsor First Federal Bank, this exciting evening will feature a dynamic keynote address delivered by decorated Iraq and Afghanistan Veteran Dr. Damon Friedman, along with special presentations and Veteran testimonials.
The gala provides individuals and businesses the unique opportunity to demonstrate the power of community to sponsor warriors through a four-component wellness program, The Resiliency Project. All proceeds support the project, with the goal of collectively healing warriors who are struggling psychologically, socially, spiritually and physically with the visible and invisible scars of war.
The Resiliency Project provided resources and healing to Layne, a Marine Corps Veteran who served four years and was deployed twice. In his testimony he shares,
“I was going in and out of depression,” he said. “I would isolate and not talk to anyone. I was going through a low time and finally decided just to end it. I just put an M-4 rifle in my mouth and pulled the trigger. I had a mis-fire not once, but twice and that’s when I knew I needed help…and now I know that everybody deserves that help. This is why I’m still here, so I can help other people and get the other people the help that I refused to get for so long.”
