Master-planned Community Donated Land for 7,000 Square-foot Facility Serving Entire City of Pooler

Pooler, GA. (July 13, 2013) – The Savannah Quarters master-planned community is the home of the newest fire station to serve the City of Pooler, Ga. A public open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on June 27 to mark the opening of the 7,000 square-foot Fire Station #4 located off Quacco Road near the Easthaven community in Savannah Quarters.

In May 2011, Savannah Quarters donated three acres of land to the City for the station and construction began one year later. In addition to standard fire suppression services, the new station provides the entire Pooler community with specialized equipment and rescue support.

The station is equipped with a heavy rescue vehicle that is designed to provide the specialized equipment necessary for technical rescue situations such as auto accidents requiring vehicle extrication, building collapses, confined space rescue and more. The rescue vehicle carries an array of special equipment including the “Jaws of Life” hydraulic rescue tool, cutting torches, portable generators and other forms of heavy equipment not typically found on standard fire trucks.

Initially, the station is being staffed with 12 firefighters, with a minimum of three personnel manning the station around the clock. According to Pooler Fire Chief Wade Simmons, the plans are to add an additional unit and staff as the surrounding area develops. Simmons, who has been the Fire Chief since 2008 and a Georgia firefighter since 1990, said, “We are excited to be a part of the Savannah Quarters community and we look forward to increasing our presence at community events.” Fire Truck

Pooler is one of the fastest growing cities in Georgia and, according to the 2010 Census, the population of Pooler has nearly tripled in recent years. To accommodate this growth, the Pooler Fire Department has doubled in size over the past five years and the location of this new station will reduce the response time to area incidents by half, with three to four minutes being the longest response time. Pooler is slated to add a fifth fire station by the end of July 2013.
