The celebration will begin on Friday, August 17 with a dinner on the docks served by the Smoke Station and live music by “Steel the Show.” Then on Saturday morning the second annual WPA Sanctioned Paddle Savannah SUP Splash Race will take place which will bring recreational and elite racers to The Landings to compete. There will also be a kayak division and a kids’ race as part of the weekend. The Coastal Conservation Association - Skidaway Chapter will be raffling off a variety of prizes every half hour including sailing lessons, kayak tours, dinners, and even a new kayak.
A wide variety of family-friendly demonstrations will take place during the day including paddleboard yoga, kayaking, sailing and fishing. Weather permitting, the Rhodes 19 Sailing members will offer sailing trips during the weekend, and The Landings Art Association will provide an exhibit in Delegal Marina’s Sunset Room.
Sunday is Kids’ Day, complete with a kids’ paddle board/kayak fun course, face painting, crabbing and more. “Crawfish” Crawford (and his marine friends) will also be on hand for instruction and entertainment.
“Delegal Creek Marina is one of our most beautiful amenities and a fitting location for this event,” Landings Association General Manager Shari Haldeman said. “Our goal for this event is to increase interest and appreciation for the variety of recreational opportunities on our waterfront, and to showcase our waterfront amenities to guests. This is a special year for The Landings as it is our 40th Anniversary. The fact that this first time event occurs on such a milestone birthday for The Landings makes it even more special. I hope everyone will come out and show their support for our waterfront.”
Throughout the year other 40th anniversary celebrations will be held including the annual LandingsFest on the Green in the fall and the unveiling of Ideal Living Magazine’s 2012 Ideal Home.
