Survey Shows 4 in 5 Intend to Buy in a Master-Planned Community

ReportThis year asked consumers who visited the research portal during the past 24 months about their plans to purchase a home. The results: people shopping online for homes located in master-planned communities shared many powerful insights including the price ranges they were interested in, their expected timeline to purchase and even how they planned to use their home. The 2014 survey report can be downloaded here.

Some Key Survey Findings:

  • More than 4 in 5 (81%) consumers who have been researching privately-developed communities said they planned to buy a home specifically in a master-planned community.
  • Nearly 4 in 5 (76%) said they planned to purchase within the next 24 months
  • And 4 of 10 who said they would purchase within 24 months planned a purchase in the next 12 months.

The survey was offered to more than 13,000 consumers who had previously volunteered their email addresses to for future contact. The voluntary (uncompensated) response rate was 4.23%.

“While we’ve seen consumer shopping patterns develop over the past 20 years, we were pleasantly surprised at how many consumers voluntarily offered their feedback,” said Elisabeth Miller-Fox, co-founder of “We want to share this data with our clients, developers, homeowner’s associations, Realtors and really anyone with a vested interest in marketing and selling homes in master-planned communities.”
