Callawassie Island, SC (September 26, 2017) – A thousand runners and walkers gathered on Callawassie Island on Saturday in support of Pledge the Pink, a three-day breast cancer awareness event. Each participant donned spunky pink attire as they wound their way through ten miles of the community in an event that more closely resembled a party than a traditional fundraising race.

Supporters were met with equal enthusiasm from the island’s residents, who decorated everything from the courses to their homes and mailboxes with an abundance of all things pink. Residents also lined the course with water stations, photo booth stations, games and endless encouragement.

This annual fundraiser for breast cancer research takes place across three different Lowcountry islands providing a scenic ten-mile course for those who travel from all over the country to participate! Every proceed from registration and sponsorship fees are donated to breast care providers for life-saving screening, treatment and research.

Last year, Pledge the Pink and Callawassie Island, with the help of their participants, earned the Guinness World Record for Longest Line of Garden Flamingos by setting up over 1,000 flamingos, end to end. The festive nature of this bright pink bird has made it a Pledge the Pink staple when decorating for the festivities.
