(Sarasota, FL) - Schroeder-Manatee Ranch, Inc. (SMR) is pleased to announce the first major sporting event at the Lakewood Ranch sports complex is booked for 2011. The Florida Youth Soccer Association (FYSA) boy’s state cup will take place in Lakewood Ranch on April 30-May 1.

Forty-eight teams in the under 15, 16 and 17 year old divisions will compete on eight soccer fields and will be the first event on the new fields. “We could not be more excited about the FYSA coming to Lakewood Ranch,” said Tim Mulqueen, Lakewood Ranch Director of Sports. “Forty-eight teams of about 20 players per team, plus their friends and families will mean a huge influx of people into Sarasota & Manatee counties that weekend and promises to impact the local economy in a big way—and this is just the beginning!”

Mulqueen is the new Director of Sports for the multi-purpose sports complex which will open in April 2011. The complex, being constructed now, will house 22 full-sized, mixed use fields for soccer, lacrosse and other amateur sports, and will feature Celebration grass and underground irrigation. The complex will be used for amateur and professional top-flight and world-class sporting tournaments, events, camps and clinics.

SMR is also in the middle of a contest to come up with a name and logo for the new complex. Contest rules and prize information can be found online at www.lakewoodranch.com and the contest runs through March 1, 2011.
