More Than 180 Golfers Participated in the Third Annual Event

(St. Helena Island, S.C.) – On November 9, residents of Dataw Island teamed with the local Chapters of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Lion’s Club of Beaufort, S.C. to raise more than $19,000 during the third annual golf tournament to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. The non-profit organization supports wounded American combat veterans and assists them on their road to recovery.

“The Wounded Warrior Project golf event has become something we at Dataw Island strive to make better each and every year,” said Ted Bartlett, general manager and chief operating officer of Dataw Island Club. “The military presence in the Beaufort area has such a long storied history and we have many residents who have served admirably themselves. So, it makes us so proud to give something back to the military veterans and their families who have sacrificed so much to provide us the freedom we enjoy every day.”

More than 180 Dataw Island residents participated in the event which has raised more than $50,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project over the last three years.

The opening ceremony included patriotic songs sung by members of the Dataw Chorus and a flyover was performed by civilian pilots who reside at Dataw Island. The event takes place each year during the week of Veteran's Day.
