Tampa, FL – FishHawk Ranch, the first certified Green Development in Hillsborough County and the largest in Tampa, has officially been awarded a $4,375 Community Education Grant from the Southwest Florida Water Management District. The grant will help to educate the 3,500 FishHawk homeowners about how water conservation, natural systems and watersheds can benefit their community.

Through a series of in-depth resident workshops presented by Green Building University and the Hillsborough County Extension Service, FishHawk Ranch will teach residents about the various ways they can reduce water consumption and cut water related expenses for their residences.

“Many of our residents are passionate about our natural resources as Newland Communities is” said Rick Harcrow, senior vice president of operations for Newland Communities. “This grant will allow them to explore more local ways to conserve water and share that information with their neighbors and friends.”

Applying and receiving the grant for the first time, FishHawk Ranch intends to educate residents on reducing household water consumption through water-efficient landscaping. The community also plans to provide residents with water-saving devices including low-volume shower heads, faucet adaptors, rain gauges and rain barrels.
