NAPLES, Fla. (Oct. 3, 2017) – At Naples Reserve, lifestyle events throughout the year help foster a true sense of community.

From ladies’ “Lunch Brunch” to weekly mahjong games and community ice cream socials, Naples Reserve makes it easy to get to know your neighbors and make new friends.
“All of the experiences residents share make it a close-knit community,” said Naples Reserve Lifestyle Director Carri Adam. “Our Fourth of July celebration brought residents from all neighborhoods together for an afternoon of fun, food and games.”

Naples Reserve resident Tom Marquardt and his wife Sue lived in Annapolis, Maryland, for 36 years prior to moving to Naples Reserve a year ago. They selected the Minorca, a three-bedroom, three-bath Ashton Woods home with 2,663 square feet of living space in the Sparrow Cay neighborhood.

“I swear I heard Jimmy Buffet when I walked through the model!” said Marquardt.
As new residents, the Marquardts organized progressive dinners with their Sparrow Cay neighbors. “It was something we enjoyed doing with our friends in Maryland, and it’s a great way to bring people together,” said Marquardt.

A year later, the dinners have grown to a quarterly event for eight couples. Upcoming plans include a dinner planned around a regional theme.

Retired from the newspaper publishing industry, Marquardt now has more time to devote to activities like kayaking on Naples Reserve’s Eagle Lake, swimming laps in the pool and biking, but he enjoys more social pursuits as well. He and Sue haven’t missed one of Adam’s community events. In fact, Marquardt – an oenophile who has a website and writes a weekly syndicated column, “Wine Etc.” – helped coordinate a wine tasting event in the spring at the Outrigger that was attended by more than 50 Naples Reserve residents.
“We served varieties most people were unfamiliar with – Grenache, rosé, Godello, Gruner Veltiner and Picpoul, with a focus on bottles that were under $15,” he said.

“We’ve never been in a community that has been this active. There is high energy here and a thriving drive to get to know each other. We’ve made so many new friends,” said Marquardt. “Moving to Naples Reserve was the smartest thing we did in retirement.”
