BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (June 30, 2015) – Much has changed in the eight years since WCI Communities built a Sky Home, the company’s brand of luxury high rises.

While new building codes have been implemented to ensure structures are better able to handle Florida’s strong storms, new building technology and materials have enabled the builder to create residences with wider expanses of glass for stunning views, as well as large terraces for enjoying the best of Florida’s outdoor lifestyle.

Both design features resonated with Altaira reservation holders Brian and Maureen Schwartz of Fort Myers.

“We were immediately attracted to the bright and airy design,” said Maureen Schwartz.
“Altaira fulfilled every aspect of our new home wish list: generous square footage and high ceilings, stylish interior design, and an emphasis on adjoining indoor/outdoor living spaces.”

The Schwartzes are among the first to select a home in the 21-story Altaira at The Colony Golf & Bay Club in Bonita Springs. Altaira will offer 76 Sky Homes? featuring hurricane-rated, solar-tinted floor-to-ceiling windows, as well as up to 529 square feet of open-air and screened-in terraces in select residences. These design features introduce natural light into each residence, along with views of The Colony, Estero Bay and even the famous Gulf of Mexico sunsets.

“We’ve always been ‘early adopters,’” said Maureen Schwartz, crediting the couples’ twin college-age sons with keeping them up-to-date and interested in technology.

Sky Homes live like grand single-family residences but offer a low-maintenance lifestyle that provides owners with free time to enjoy both onsite amenities of Altaira and those at The Colony, WCI’s 809-acre master-planned community located within Pelican Landing.

Altaira meets the needs of today’s on-the-go empty nesters who travel and want a more simplified lifestyle. A fully staffed concierge desk provides peace of mind, as does a high-tech access control system that monitors and communicates with manned supervised services.

While the Schwartzes’ nest isn’t quite empty yet – their 16-year-old daughter will soon start her junior year in high school – they knew Altaira was an amazing opportunity for high-rise living in Bonita Springs that they couldn’t pass up. They were already familiar with resort-style amenities available at The Colony Golf & Bay Club, and the onsite amenities at Altaira sealed the deal.

“Everything we need will be in one place,” said Maureen Schwartz.

In designing Altaira, WCI incorporated amenities emphasizing health and wellness – a national trend for multi-family homebuyers who place fitness and exercise at a premium, according to the National Association of Home Buyers.

Altaira’s amenity level will offer a fitness center featuring state-of-the-art exercise equipment for aerobic and strength training and a separate room for yoga and Pilates. Its outdoor heated resort-style pool will also have dedicated lanes for lap swimming and a whirlpool spa for post-workout relaxation.

Activities like walking and biking have always been a staple in The Colony, and private canoe and kayak facilities in The Colony and Pelican Landing provide additional active amenities sought by today’s buyers.

“Our daughter loves canoeing and kayaking, and we’re really looking forward to the private beach access,” said Maureen Schwartz. “Naturally, living near the water was also on our wish list.”

Altaira’s outdoor amenities also reflect another NAHB-identified trend: Alfresco areas for gathering day and night. The building’s pavilion bar and poolside chaises will encourage residents to mingle by the pool and enjoy the ambiance of a west deck reflecting pool, water wall and open fire pit.

The luxury tower’s rooftop Sky Terrace will offer the ultimate outdoor lounging experience, with expansive views of Estero Bay, the Gulf of Mexico and nightly sunsets.

Altaira is the perfect place to entertain for the Schwartzes, who have an active social calendar. Brian is managing partner of Florida Urology Physicians, and Maureen is an active Harry Chapin Food Bank volunteer. The couple also participates in the Southwest Florida Wine & Food Fest each year.

“The location is perfect for gatherings with our Fort Myers and Naples friends,” she said.

Each Sky Home features 3,300 or 3,500 square feet of living space. Altaira residences offer views of The Colony’s lakes, nature preserves and golf course, and Estero Bay and the Gulf of Mexico from higher floors. The tower features 19 residential floors, each with only four residences per floor.

Altaira’s residences are designed with open great rooms, generously sized kitchens, three bedrooms, private den, three full baths, powder room and east- and west-facing terraces. Corner units offer additional north- or south-facing terraces.

Some Altaira Sky Homes include owner storage rooms and all have laundry rooms with large-capacity washers and dryers and built-in utility sinks. Each home has a private elevator foyer.

Altaira’s first floor provides resident garage parking, air-conditioned owner’s storage, bicycle storage, and a power source for electric-powered vehicles.

Residents of Altaira also will enjoy the lifestyle and amenities of The Colony Golf & Bay Club, featuring the award-winning Bay Club and membership opportunities at the 28,000-square-foot Colony Golf and Country Club and Sports Club.

As part of Pelican Landing, Colony residents have access to a second canoe park, fitness and community centers, and additional tennis and pickleball courts. A private boat shuttles residents to the private 34-acre Beach Park on the northern tip of Big Hickory Island seven days a week.

WCI is accepting reservations for Altaira Sky Homes and expects to begin construction in August, with completion scheduled during the second quarter of 2017.

Sky Homes in Altaira start from $1 million.
