Richard Dunn promoted to Cycling Coach to serve with Hincapie
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. (May 11, 2015) – The Cliffs recently promoted Richard Dunn to its health and wellness team as Cycling Coach. Working directly with professional cyclist George Hincapie, The Cliffs’ Director of Cycling, Dunn will enhance the experience of the ridership within The Cliffs by creating new programming and events for members. Hincapie and Dunn will work together to deepen the partnership between The Cliffs and Hincapie Sports by coordinating professional cycling events for The Cliffs’ members and prospective buyers at all seven of The Cliffs’ clubs.
“It’s been said by the world’s cycling elite that the Western Carolinas have some of the best cycling roads in the country,” explained Matt Ort, The Cliffs’ Director of Health, Wellness, and Recreation. “As the popularity of cycling continues grow, so does the number of cyclists coming to The Cliffs, all of whom have a desire for personalized coaching and top-of-the-line programming.”
Ort continued, “We are thrilled to add Richard Dunn to our roster of health, wellness and recreation experts. With more than 40 years of experience in cycling, Richard brings so much passion and love for the sport to our members, and will be such an asset to them, whether they are just beginning or are in the seasoned, competitive set.”
George Hincapie agreed: “Richard has a rich history in cycling. He knows all the roads around our area, and is great with beginner cyclists to professional cyclists. I am looking forward to having him on The Cliffs’ team.”
Dunn comes to The Cliffs with a wide range of experience in the cycling industry and has been involved in competitive cycling in the U.S. and abroad since 1970. In addition to competing, he was a member of the USA National Road Team from 1974 to 1977, Assistant Technical Director for the 1990 Tour of Texas, Tour DuPont Liaison for the Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa, and Operations Assistant for the 1995 Tour of China. While working for the Grove Park Inn, he played a significant role in bringing the Union Cycliste Internationale’s Tour DuPont cycling event to the Asheville, N.C. area.
Most recently, Dunn has been the Race Director for the French Broad Cycling Classic. The three-day event includes a time trial, road race and criterium. As a Race Director for the Asheville Bicycle Racing Club and French Broad Cycling Classic, he displayed great expertise on the business side of cycling which is evident in the continuous revenue growth during the ten years he held position.
Dunn joins a very active community of cycling enthusiasts at The Cliffs. The collection of seven communities, set minutes apart in the Western Carolina mountains and Lake Keowee, have created special programs for beginners to advanced cyclists. Private rides are offered throughout the year; members can rent bicycles; and The Cliffs’ members participate in programs offered at George Hincapie’s nearby cyclist–friendly boutique hotel, Hotel Domestique. Dunn and fellow coach Vance Ferrigno will lead the pack with group rides and individual daily training.
