Bella Vista Village, AR (November 7, 2014) - SafeWise, a community-focused security organization, released its “30 Safest Cities in Arkansas” report this week, naming Bella Vista as third among all Arkansas cities. In its report, SafeWise officials touted Bella Vista’s natural beauty and variety of amenities – all while offering a quiet, safe home for its residents.

“The lucky people who call this beautiful town home often feel like they are on a permanent vacation and it’s easy to see why. Bella Vista is nestled in the foothills of the Ozarks and started out as a resort getaway in the early twentieth century,” SafeWise officials wrote in the report.

“Residents and visitors enjoy the amenities of seven golf courses, miles of walking trails, hundreds of acres of wooded grounds, plus seven lakes, a marina, and three swimming pools,” the report said.

“Thankfully, everyone is free to enjoy all that Bella Vista has to offer without worrying about personal safety. In 2012, this community of more than 27,000 reported no incidents of arson or robbery.”

Bella Vista achieved the top honor, ranking only after Pocahontas and Elkins.

Other communities to make the top 10 include: Greenwood, Gentry, Little Flock, Corning, Pottsville, Barling and Walnut Ridge.

“We are very pleased to receive this high honor for our community,” Bella Vista Property Owners Association General Manager Tommy Bailey said. “This top ranking really tells our story well – that people love to call Bella Vista ‘home.’ They love the amenities, they love the wildlife and most importantly, they feel safe here.”

For the ranking, SafeWise utilized the most recent FBI crime data from 2012 to analyze particular cities, all of which have a minimum population of 2,500 people.

SafeWise officials considered crimes from part 1 of the FBI Unified Crime Report (UCR) reported crime data, which focuses on violent crimes (aggravated assault, forcible rape, murder, and robbery) as well as property crimes (arson, burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft).

From there, officials calculated the chances of these crimes occurring in one out of 1,000 to level the playing field for cities of varying populations. From all the cities in Arkansas, officials narrowed the list to 30 and then assigned rankings according to data provided by the FBI’s UCR report.

"These Arkansas cities show the difference it makes when people really care about the place they call home," SafeWise Security Analyst Rebecca Edwards said. “Half of the cities on our list had 10 or less violent crimes in 2012, which shows how willing these residents are to work with local law enforcement to keep their communities safe.”
