Earlier this year, the Lakewood Ranch Country Club membership was surveyed and their responses helped shape the direction of the improvements.
Due to the extreme demand for classes and heavy use of the gym area, the existing 11,000-square-foot fitness center building at the Athletic Center will be expanded by 6,900 square feet, with upgrades to the lighting and HVAC systems. Pickleball courts will also be installed.
Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club’s Royal Lakes golf course, presently served by a temporary building with a shell parking area, will see the addition of a double-ended driving range and practice area – similar to the one found at the Club’s existing facility – followed by an approximately 10,000- to 12,000-square-foot clubhouse with a golf shop and bar and grill, and a paved parking lot.
The additions are preliminarily phased as follows:
When the project is finished, members will enjoy the availability of both the main club and the facilities at Royal Lakes, addressing the needs of the community now and in the future. Despite the trend toward downsizing and belt tightening seen in other area country clubs, Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club has experienced membership growth and demand, including in its youth programs.
No specific figures have been released, but the expansion, improvements and construction will require a multi-million dollar investment by SMR. Dozens of new jobs are expected to be created as well.
