(July 16, 2013) – Currahee Club, a 1,200-acre mountain community overlooking Lake Hartwell, today added the compelling and finishing touches to its national-class collection of club amenities with the grand opening of the five-acre Currahee Sports Club and Amenity Campus, according to Managing Director Andrew Ward.
Perched on high-ground overlooking panoramic north Georgia views, Currahee Club’s new amenity campus boasts a broad collection of family sports and recreational facilities.
Outdoor offerings include elegant furnished patio spaces, a grand lawn, zero-entry swimming pool, two tennis courts, community gardens, sand volleyball court, playground, fire pit, basketball and four-square courts and two bocce ball courts.
The Sports Club anchors the center’s new interior spaces and includes a concierge foyer, state-of-the-art fitness room, children’s activities room and the canoe Bar and Grill.

The Sports Club and Amenity Center now completes Currahee Club’s world-class collection of club amenities, including its championship Jim Fazio-designed golf course, recently recognized as one of The Rolex World’s Top 1000 Golf Courses. The course also was recognized as the #62 Best Residential Course in the United States and #3 Best in Georgia, according to Golfweek Magazine’s annual ranking.
Other amenities at Currahee Club include a stunning 48,000 sq. ft. clubhouse overlooking Lake Hartwell and featuring the Great Lodge Room, a billiards room, the Overlook Dining Room, Fazio Pub, plus several outdoor terraces and private meeting rooms. Men’s and women’s locker rooms are perfectly appointed, and include a custom made Irish bar and a private terrace on the men’s side.
Further amenities include miles of walking trails and access to Lake Hartwell from the Currahee Lake Park. The Currahee team also works closely with Unicoi Outfitters and Wildwater Adventures to offer rafting, zip-lining and fly fishing for outdoor enthusiasts.
Project manager for the Currahee Sports Club and Amenity Center was Tom Rodgers, director of development for Currahee Club. The general contractor was Eaton Properties out of Lavonia, Ga.
The Sports Club building was designed by the Jacksonville-based firm of Basham & Lucas Design Group, Inc. and landscaping was designed and installed in-house by Adam Craig with Currahee Club.
Currahee Club will be the site of the 2013 Southern Living Showcase Home overlooking hole #17 on Currahee’s award-winning championship golf course. Presented by Currahee Club and Dillard-Jones Builders, the Showcase Home will be open to the public from August through December, 2013
