(Blowing Rock, N.C.) May 25, 2012— The weather is warming up and Blue Ridge Mountain Club is ready to celebrate the official arrival of summer on June 22 & 23. Join us for an exciting weekend of family-friendly activities for all ages.
Friday, June 22nd The Summer Solstice weekend kicks off with Music on the Lawn at The Inn at Ragged Gardens on Friday night, where more often than not you can find at least a few friendly faces from BRMC. Each Friday throughout the season, the Inn at Ragged Gardens attracts hundreds of people and some of the finest musicians in the High Country to its weekly concert series. This year we will be delighted by the music of Klee and Mike, a local acoustic duo. Light hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be served. Please check in at the BRMC table to receive a drink voucher.
Saturday, June 23rd On Saturday, we will start off with a brunch (catered by Grouse Moor) at the Watson Gap Pavilion at 10:30 am, followed by an activity-filled afternoon. We'll start with a hike along the Dugger Trail led by naturalist and survival expert Kevin Tincher, who will teach us about medicinal and edible plants as well as some basic survival skills. Kevin is also the founder of the Coyote Club, an organization Outbound will team up with this year for a series of eco-excursions and survival adventures geared toward children and families that will shed a whole new light on our community.
BRMC will also provide ATVs courtesy of Brushy Mountain Motorsports for those who wish to ride on the newly-completed West Ridge Trail. There will be free time from 4-6 pm to get ready for the evening events.
At 6:30 pm there will be cocktails at Watson Gap Park, followed by dinner (catered by Grouse Moor) at 7 pm. Children will enjoy dinner together (6:30 pm), followed by a movie, which will be supervised in a nearby Watson Gap cottage. After the movie, the group will feast on s'mores by the fire. Music for the evening will be provided by local Bluegrass band, Amantha Mill.
Bring your friends and family and join us for the Summer Solstice Celebration. The cost is $50 per adult ($25 per child) for the entire weekend of activities. For reservations or for questions about this and other BRMC events, email or call BRMC Outbound Coordinator Harrison Herbst at (828) 295-8667 ext. 5916.
