Haig Point Director of Tennis Ron Gwyn Recognized for his Work to Standardize Overall Tests for Teaching Certification

Daufuskie Island, SC (May 23, 2012) – Ron Gwyn, who has been director of tennis at Haig Point Club on Daufuskie Island for the past 16 years, has received the 2012 Tester of the Year Award for the Southern Division from the U.S. Professional Tennis Association (USPTA).

The award recognizes the work that Gwyn has done over the last 12 years to provide uniform testing criteria for becoming a certified professional within the Association. There is both a physical test for playing and teaching in an individual and group setting, and a written test for overall and specific sport knowledge.

“To have been selected by my peers makes this award very meaningful,” said Gwyn, a resident of Hilton Head Island, S.C.

Gwyn is also a teacher who gets results, as teams from Haig Point have been in the State Tournament in each of the last three years. Twice in the last three years, Haig Point has had teams advance to regional competition.

The USPTA has more than 15,000 members and offers the most comprehensive continuing educations program within the tennis industry. It was founded in 1927 with the goal of promoting the game and strives to raise the standards of the profession. For more information, visit www.uspta.com or call (800) 877-8248.
