Savannah, GA (May 1, 2012) - On 23 April 2012, The Landings Military Family Relief Fund hosted the 6th Annual Military Appreciation Golf Tournament at The Landing’s Plantation Golf Course. 126 players participated, among whom were a number of officers and enlisted personnel from the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR).

The Tournament also provided the opportunity for all Landings residents to honor family and friends who are or have served in our military by sponsoring a golf hole. Prior to play, the 160th’s Color Guard presented the Colors while participants pledged their allegiance to our nation’s flag.

The Landings Military Family Relief Fund’s mission is to provide a financial safety net to Military families facing unexpected emergencies that fall outside of existing military resources. This year’s tournament raised more than $18,000 for use by the Fund. All monies received go to a “restricted” account within the Red Cross whose local Chapter is responsible for administering and distributing the funds to those families in need.

Following play, all participants enjoyed a luncheon buffet. The guest speaker at the buffet was Lt Colonel William (Bill) Golden, just returned from Afghanistan, Commanding Officer of SOAR who provided a brief overview of SOAR's role in today's military operations. Following his talk, awards were given out for team gross and low net scores as well as a closest to the hole award. Closing out the day was a raffle drawing for several door prizes donated by local businesses and individuals.
