Only about 9,000 rounds are played here annually, so the greens, fairways and practice facilities are never crowded.
Clubhouse: The development features two clubhouses; each with its own private dining facilities.
Tennis: Spring Island offers four Har-Tru clay courts and a full schedule of tennis instruction, community tennis and interclub play.
Equestrian: The 30-acre equestrian center at Spring Island includes an impeccable 24-stall barn surrounded by 15 grass paddocks, two riding rings (one for hunters and jumpers and one for pleasure and beginning riders) and 35 miles of scenic riding trails.
Fitness: A fully equipped fitness center is available on-site, with an ongoing schedule of aerobics and exercise classes.
Recreation: Other on-site recreational pursuits range from volleyball and croquet to hiking, biking, kayaking and wildlife viewing in a 1,200-acre nature reserve. The Spring Island Nature Center, staffed by four full-time naturalists, offers guided nature walks and other educational activities for residents and for grade school students from surrounding communities.
Boating: Spring Island residents have access to private docks and a community boat ramp, with kayaking equipment available on-site. Surrounding waterways provide easy passage to Port Royal Sound, the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean.
Swimming: A private community swimming pool is located adjacent to the fitness center and tennis courts.
Hunting and Fishing: Although hunting is no longer permitted within the development, residents have access to a privately managed hunting club located at the 2,600-acre Pleasant Hill Plantation, about 45 minutes from Spring Island. Anglers can enjoy world-class fishing opportunities year-round, from local lakes, creeks and rivers to big game fishing on the nearby Atlantic Ocean.
Dining and Shopping: Residents may enjoy the convenience of clubhouse dining without leaving the development. Additional shopping and dining options are located at Hilton Head, Savannah and other nearby communities.
Health Care: Emergency care and other medical services are available at the Hilton Head Regional Medical Center and the Coastal Carolina Medical Center in nearby Hardeeville. Several major regional hospitals are located about 30 miles away in Savannah, Georgia.
