Health and Emergency Services The Big Canoe POA provides community fire protection and emergency medical services, with seven fire stations on the property, around-the-clock EMS staffing and a state-certified Basic Life Support Vehicle. Because all residences in Big Canoe are within five road miles of a fire station and within 1,000 feet of a water supply, Big Canoe is 1 of only 3.6% of fire departments nationwide that have an ISO (Insurance Service Organization) rating of 3. Most insurance carriers use ISO standards to assess the level of fire protection available and establish insurance rates. An excellent ISO rating positively affects homeowner insurance policies.
